Youth Choir – week of Nov 25

Well, you’ve done it again. Last night’s performance at the Bach Festival was very solid, very professional, and very impressive. Good job in a tough situation, coming onto stage in a huge church with a huge audience, never having sung in that space before! I’m so proud of you (yet again), and I hope this means that our next concert will be perfect, now that we have performed everything so much this semester!

we missed you: Gabrielle and Sarina (extra credit to Maxime and Giuliana for holding down the fort in the alto section tonight!)

homework: Au berceau, Apple Tree Wassail, Quittez Pasteurs (verse 1 and 3) Here’s an idea for ATW –  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4f4A7MtDpSk

Posters were distributed at tonight’s concert. Please display these somewhere where we might recruit some new audience members! Schools, libraries, churches, and coffee shops are all good places to start.

The red tickets which were distributed tonight (one per chorister) are to be given to a student who might be interested in joining the choir. Please only give these to friends or students who are of the appropriate age to join either one of the choirs (8-12, 12-18). Family members who attend the concert will be able to buy a ticket at the door on the day of the concert ($15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors).

On another note: Did anyone film the performance yesterday? Rebecca’s Mom would like a copy if you did!

Wine / Christmas rehearsal tracks

Bonjour

Tracks

Wine

Here are the news about the wine.  They found enough Tosco for our group (yé!).  They found enough Kutl for our group (yé!).  They’re out of Donna Marzia; but they replaced it by an equivalent Spanish wine.  And, unfortunately, they’re out of white wine Pinot gris.  Which is a shame.

Being said that I’m very disappointed with the way things are tunring, let’s move forward.

So.  For all of you who ordered mixed red wine cases, I’ve let your order unchanged.  I hope you’ll be fine with the Spanish wine instead of the Donna Marzia.

For those of you who have ordered Donna marzia only cases, let me know if you’re ok with the Spanish wine instead.  If not, we have a few Kult and Tosco left; you could have these instead.  Let me know, I’ll see what’s possible.

For those who had white wine, I’ve ordered 4 cases instead of 9.  So if you want white wine, no matter what kind it is, you can have some.  If you want to cancel your white wine order, it’s possible too.  Let me know what your choice is.

Program infos

Here is our Mini-Christmas concert program, in the right order.  Please, print all the music you need and organize your binder before the concert…

  1. Tourdion
  2. Huron Carol (Version simplifiée à venir)
  3. Los reyes magos
  4. A la media noche
  5. It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
  6. Negro : Old Time Religion Medley (Mesures 76 à 91 : tout le monde chante la mélodie de la ligne de basse.  Mesures 92 à 107 : on ne les chante pas)
  7. Negro : The Storm is Passing Over
  8. Le premier Noël

That’s it. No Hanacpachap.  24 minutes of music + presentations.

Please work :

  • A la media noche : the spanish text (women only)
  • Los reyes magos : review the spanish text and learn the english verse in rhythm (Mesures 1 à 16 : en espagnol. Mesures 17 à la fin : en anglais «See how sweetly baby Jesus…)

Review and keep warm :

  • Le premier Noël
  • Upon a Midnight Clear

Next week repertoire :

  • Huron Carol
  • Tourdion
  • Los Reyes magos au complet
  • Explanation of Negro spirituals structures and quick try out

It’s been proposed that we continue rehearsals until 10:00.  Many will agree, but it might be touchy for some others.  What I suggest is : we’ll do the learning before 9:30, and then we’ll make a few run throughs until 10:00.  So if you leave at 9:30, at least the learning is done.  Feel free to express yourself about this idea.  c_lesaunier@hotmail.com

Concert infos

Sunday December 8 2013.

Meet at the Botanical Garden at 12h20.

We’ll have 20 free parking passes (co-voiturage suggéré). We’ll have a room (locked while we sing) where we can leave our bags and coats.  Leslie will make sure that a few persons among the choir make snacks for our singing marathon(!).

Indeed, we sing 4  30-minute concerts at 13h30, 14h30, 15h30 and 16h30.  Drink a lot of water 24 hours before the concerts. Avoid yelling or talking too loud (in a bar or restaurant for instance).  Get warm clothes (it’s quite cold in the Green house).  And a scarf!
