Funeral on Friday, December 20th

What

Here is our repertoire for the funeral on Friday.

  • “Amazing Grace”–at the very beginning of the service as the family walks in;
  • “The Storm is Passin’ Over,”–after the eulogies;
  • “Hallelujah”–at the end.

All scores available right here. Please print your own copies.

Tracks

Amazing Grace, MIDI rehearsal tracks avalaible right here.

Hallelujah recording : listen to our arrangement of the Hallelujah right here.

Clothing

The family wants to celebrate Fern’s life, not death.  We’ll keep joy and hope in our voices, and smiles on our faces.  We don’t have to dress in black; some colour is ok.

Where

Loyola Campus Map here.

We’ll sing at 2:00 pm in the Loyola Chapel, 7141 rue Sherbrooke ouest (see “FC” on the map).  Watch out, it’s on Concordia Loyola campus (near where we rehearse at Ben’s church), not the downtown campus.  Hilary said about the place : «The chapel is about the same size as Redpath Hall, or maybe a bit smaller (?), with a very high ceiling, and the acoustics seemed lively to me today when I checked it out.»

Meeting 1:00 pm

We meet at 1:00 pm, in the room VE-317, close to Hilary’s office (see “VE” on the map).   The sooner you get there, the better…  Here are Hilary’s indication to find the place :

–from Sherbrooke Street Ouest/West, go north on West Broadway (beside Concordia University); actually you can’t go south on West Broadway, it’s a one-way street

–just before you get to the St. Ignatius Church and rue de Terrebonne, there is a lane into the Concordia Campus; turn right onto this lane and drive past the first parking lot on the left

–continue straight ahead past several buildings (and speed bumps!) until you come to the parking lot at the centre of campus ($5, but I will reimburse everyone)

–when you get out of your car, start to walk back toward Sherbrooke Street; the Loyola Chapel (on the right) is under construction; we’ll go there later

–follow the path (on the left) toward the Vanier Library and the Oscar Peterson Hall; before you get to the double doors of the library, you will come to a door on the right

–the door on the right is the door to my building, the Vanier Extension (VE), and I think the sign says Department of Applied Human Sciences

–go inside and take the stairs to the 3rd floor; take the first hallway on the left, and go in the first doorway to the left; the room number is VE 317 (I have the key)

–if anyone asks, you are with Hilary (I have reserved the room)

As of now, there will be Joanne, Lisa, Leslie (+ maybe her daughter), Gloria (+ maybe her daughter), Candy, Gaby, Hilary, Suzanne, Nancy B., Sergio, Martin the tenor and me. Which is a rather balanced group for 3-voice singing.  Everybody’s welcome to join.

P.-S. Hilary can you forward this post to Martin, the mysterious tenor? Thanks.

This Friday : singing for a friend

On a sad note…

Funerals will take place this Friday, Dec. 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Loyola Chapel at Concordia University (on Sherbrooke west near where we rehearse at Ben’s church).

Hilary suggested (or the family suggested…) that a few hymns could be sung by a certain choir…  Hilary also suggested to «hire» our choir, so that it becomes a raising fund activity.

As of now, Hilary, Nancy, Sergio, a male tenor we don’t know yet and me will be singing for this event. For the moment, I sing soprano.  We’d like a part of the choir to join us.  Everybody’s welcome to sing and support our friends.

Nous chanterons :

  • The Storm is Passing Over
  • Amazing Grace (3-voice arrangement)
  • and/or Hallelujah of Leonard Cohen (3-voice arrangement)

Scores will be online tonight.  Rehearsal tracks for the Hallelujah as well, (if we sing it).

Thanks for letting me know if you can make it : c_lesaunier@hotmail.com.

Hope to see many Singers there.

Catherine

Both Choirs – Party Cancelled tonight! :(

Hi everyone,

Due to the nasty weather, I think it’s in everyone’s best interest to cancel our parties this evening, and postpone until the new year. I am very sorry to disappoint everyone, but the roads are bad and there’s supposed more snow and rain between now and then – not worth the risk, as far as I’m concerned! I am mostly disappointed that I won’t have the chance to tell each and every one of you how proud I was of the concert yesterday!

If you were going to return music tonight, please bring it to the first rehearsal in January.

Please call or email anyone you know in the choir – I know that some people are not subscribed to the Choir Beat, so they might not get this notice. Please help spread the word!!

I will take this opportunity to say how proud I am of all of you – yesterday’s concert was fantastic! You sang beautifully, performed very professionally, and behaved excellently! I can’t wait to start on our next projects together!

Please have safe, happy holidays, and I’ll see you in 2014!

January – Let’s sing!

Hola a todos! / Bien le bonjour / Hi to all ‘old’ and new Singers,

Rehearsals of our reborning choir start on Tuesday January the 14th in the Presbyterian Church of Montreal-West (160 Ballantyne North), at 7:15 pm.

Persons interested in joining this dynamic and devoted choir are welcome to do it this January.  New choristers have to make an appointment with our conductor : Catherine Le Saunier, c_lesaunier@hotmail.com.

Celebration time : December 10th!

Hilary invites us next Tuesday at her place to celebrate the end of our -very short- choir session.  But still, there are a lot of things to celebrate, including the rebirth of a choir pleine de potentiel et de talents multiples.

20, 11th Avenue, Terrasse-Vaudreuil (Île-Perrot)

Door opens at 7:30.  Everybody brings hors-d’oeuvre / finger food to make it easier and more festive!  And let’s bring some italian/spanish WINE too 😉

Here are the directions to our house (Hilary and Heather) in the little town of Terrasse Vaudreuil on Ile Perrot: You will be taking Hwy 20 ouest to Ste. Anne de Bellevue. Stay on the highway, cross over the bridge at Ste. Anne de Bellevue to get to Ile Perrot.

At the very first traffic light after the bridge (look for the Dairy Queen and Smoke Meat Pete’s on the left-hand side of the highway), you will turn right.
The street where you turn right is called Boul. Perrot Nord. It will wind around in order to cross the railway tracks (two sets).

You will stay on that road, pass a handful of houses, go about 1 km through the woods that are owned by McGill. The road is very windy–go slow. Soon you will come to Terrasse Vaudreuil (our town of 2000), and you will see more houses. At the third street, there is a stop sign. This is 11th Avenue. Turn right on 11th.

We are the fourth house on the right, and the number is 20. Pale blue with vinyl siding. Do not drive too far down 11th, or you will hit the lake. No swimming this time of year.

Our phone number is 514-453-7924.

«Chantons et buvons, les amis, buvons donc!»

Concert meeting point : Poly-2 at 11:00

We’ll do a warm up together, run through a few songs and then will have time for a light snack before our first concert.  Please, bring your own lunch and a bottle of WATER.  It’s important to be hydrated enough to keep a good concentration.

We sing at 1:30, 2:30, 3:30 and 4:30.

  1. Tourdion
  2. Huron Carol (version simplifiée)
  3. Los reyes magos (espagnol, puis anglais)
  4. A la media noche
  5. It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
  6. Negro : Old Time Religion Medley (Mesures 76 à 91 : tout le monde chante la ligne de basse.  Mesures 92 à 107 : on chante à 2 voix, i.e. hommes = basse et femmes = soprano)
  7. Negro : The Storm is Passing Over
  8. Le premier Noël

  • be creative… and elegant.
  • black binder for your scores

Party, Mardi le 10 décembre

Hilary invites us next Tuesday at her place to celebrate the end of our -very short- choir session.  Infos/address will follow in the next e-mail.

January

I’ll send you a post with all infos.  Please share with your potentially interested friends / future singers!

Comité

For this new departure, I’d like to have a team, a comité, ready to work on a few things for the choir.  I don’t want this ensemble to be ‘my’ choir.  Our choir has to belon to its members. I’ll bring everybody a paper on Sunday with my suggestions of what could be shared among all of us.

Let me know if a change has to be made.
